Modern Streetcar is on Track : September 30, 2009
"We're going to provide a modern streetcar to this community by hook or by crook," a smiling Tucson Transportation Director Jim Glock says.
He says that because it's been five years since Tucson started the process to build a modern streetcar. Now, after five years of jumping through federal hoops, the city is in the stretch run.

City picks Oregon firm for streetcars: June 5, 2009
Tucson could see its first streetcar rolling through downtown as soon as 2011.
The city has chosen Oregon Iron Works to build seven streetcars for the four-mile route from Interstate 10 through downtown to the University Medical Center.

Federal Transit Administration Give Approval to the Tucson Modern Streetcar Project

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has issued a letter of approval for the Tucson Modern Streetcar project to proceed with final design. This FTA determination moves the project’s design and engineering into its final stage and grants the City of Tucson authority to begin procurement of critical path components -- such as the vehicles and rail – as well as the relocation of utilities along the route.

Will Be First Step in Federally Sponsored 'Major Transit Investment Study'

On Thursday, October 14, 2004 the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) will begin a three-week survey to gather information on transit customers travel behavior and obtain their input on transit issues. The survey is the first step in an 18-month Major Transit Investment Study that will identify potential transit solutions to connect the University of Arizona to Downtown and the Río Nuevo revitalization district.
